The goverment of this city-state was made up of three branches. One of the three branches consited of the military. Military was in charge of defense of the city-state. Also, military was in charge of security in Eliacmeans by having guards and control of the jail system. Half of all profits made went to the military to support the state to buy weapons, items needed for shelter, and other necessities such as bandages, food, and clothing. Another one of the three branches was economics. This branch was in charge of trading, both exporting and importing. It was also in control of the market and distributing good, such as, olives, olive oil, and grapes. Since not much funding was needed for supporting trading, only one fourth of the money earned went to that part of society. Law making was the last branch of goverment. It created laws for the city as well as dealing with education. There were twenty people per branch that were elected every two years. The only people who could elect would be male citizens from the age fifteen or above. Women and slaves were never allowed to vote or run for a position in any of the branches. The voting consisted of an anonymous vote where the men would write down the name of the men they chose on a piece of pottery, the same way that Athens voted. A person could get elected more than once, but the limit was being elected three times. Once a man was elected for three years, he would assume his position in the military.
